Johanna Cooper

We were shocked and saddened over the weekend to learn of the untimely death July 10, 2008 (from breast cancer) of our friend and client, Johanna Cooper, whose radio specials (Chanukah: A Time For Schtick, Passover: A Time To Cross Over, One People, Many Stories, to name a few) for the Jewish holidays were unfailingly popular. She was a joy to work with, and had a huge following of friends and admirers, both social and professional. She lived in the L.A. area and we enjoyed her occasional visits to drop off cds or brainstorm ideas. Had we not known of her condition, we never would have guessed it from her always-present cheerfulness and energy. We will miss her.

  2. My name is Johanna Cooper and on July 10th I was taking care of my Grandmother, Noma Cooper, in a nursing home and she had a severe stroke, which resulted in her passing at home on 7/15/08. The similarities are curious to me. My career is in Media, I have an Art degree with a minor in R.T.V.F.. I have spent my last 16 years working in Media as well as at TV station. I don’t know actually know Johanna, but I feel like I do.

  3. I last saw Johanna two years ago (summer of 2007) right before my departure for Morocco as a Fulbright scholar, I had been interviewed for her Passover special, and we were meeting before my research trip. She was excited about possibly coming to Morocco to do a program on the women I was going to study. We exchanged a couple of emails while I was away, I knew she had had a relapse… but then we lost touch. I’ve been wondering about her health and I thought to do a search because she hadn’t answered my emails… what shock to discover her passing. She was quite a positive force and I was sure she would beat the cancer. What an untimely loss for all of us.
