R.I.P. Fairness Doctrine

The FCC formally eliminated the Fairness Doctrine this week.

The Fairness Doctrine, which was dissolved during media deregulation of the 1980s, had remained in the Federal Register even though it was no longer being enforced.

Introduced in 1949, the Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the FCC that required broadcasters to present controversial issues of public importance in a way that was both honest and balanced.  The main agenda for the doctrine was to ensure that viewers were exposed to a diversity of viewpoints.  Many believed that the spread of cable television channels and the internet have eliminated the need for regulation because of the ability to access many different points of view has become easy.

What do you think about the Fairness Doctrine?

Check out the NEW one-hour special from Bioneers Radio!

Natural Magic, explores the time-tested processes, relationships and recipes that have allowed life to flourish during 3.8 billion years of evolution.

What life does is create conditions conducive to life. Yet at this critical moment, for the first time in history, humanity has the capacity to destroy the conditions conducive to life on a global scale.
