DÉJÀ VU ALL OVER AGAIN: WIKILEAKS AND THE PENTAGON PAPERS

L.A. Theatre Works invites you to revisit -

Top Secret: The Battle for the Pentagon Papers

Starring John Heard as Ben Bradlee, Susan Sullivan as Katherine Graham, and Gregory Harrison as Brian Kelly.

In the late 1960′s, a classified government study of the Vietnam War revealed that the U.S. had misled the public regarding its intentions in Southeast Asia. Yet the Nixon administration continued to paint an optimistic picture of the war effort while sending more and more young Americans into the conflict. One of the document’s contributors, Daniel Ellsburg, decided that the public needed to know the truth about Vietnam, and leaked the study to the press. The result shook America to its core and challenged the First Amendment.

Plus! – Both hours include panel discussions with key figures from the era of the Pentagon Papers and Watergate, including journalist Carl Bernstein, former White House counsel John Dean, and Daniel Ellsburg himself.

Yesterday, Sandra Tsing Loh (The Loh Down on Science) hosted a live one-hour quiz and variety show designed to shed light on research by Caltech professors. The performance featured special guest Michael “Fly Man” Dickinson (Professor of Bioengineering at Caltech) and Craig Curtis (Program Director of 89.3 KPCC).  The show served as an experimental test of a live family-friendly long-form version of the popular, syndicated science-minute segment, produced by Caltech and originating from the studios of KPCC.

The live show was taped as a pilot for a new program that Sandra is developing (more information).

Creative PR just returned from a whirlwind week spent in St. Paul, Minnesota for the 35th Annual NFCB Conference.

We met with NFCB’s new President and CEO, Maxie Jackson.  Maxie is a charismatic man who we are sure will bring the NFCB into the next generation.  Many of the talks and sessions dealt with new technologies and how to implement them in local stations.

There was a great energy to the conference as a whole.  The presenters, attendees, and vendors all seemed to be enjoying themselves and each others company.

It was fantastic to get to see old friends and make new ones!  Additionally, it was amazing to finally get to put a face with a name and voice of many Program Directors, General Managers, and Producers that we pitch programming options or collaborate with throughout the year.

The Conference wrapped up on Saturday afternoon with Democracy Now‘s Amy Goodman to giving closing speech.

See you next year in San Francisco!
